This picture shows size variations between hedgehogs. Both these hedgehogs are full grown. The hedgehog on the right weighs 22 oz. The one on the left weighs 7 oz. Both were raised together on the same food and the same amount of exercise. Just like people there are small, medium and large hedgehogs.

Self-anointing is when the hedgehog encounters an unusual scent, such as food or even leather. They will then turn it's head and spread saliva over it's back. The hedgehog is so engross in doing this act that it will sometimes just fall over. No one is sure why hedgehogs self-anoint, but one thing is for sure can be very funny to watch.
